Project: Document Search System
Organization
Interactive Intelligence*, a manufacturer of business interaction management software for contact centers, enterprises, and service providers.
Project Description
Interactive Intelligence's Market Intelligence group had acquired more than 2500 documents in various formats from a wide variety of sources. Though they did the best they could to organize them, they needed a simple, structured way to search the text of each document and return a list of the most relevant ones. In addition, they needed a way to keep the index updated with little or no human intervention.
Solution
Paul developed a document search system that made it extremely easy to search for documents, sort the results, and retrieve the files. It was also a breeze to maintain and required no additional work on the part of the Market Intelligence group.
The key features of the document search system were:
- Searches could be performed using simple freetext queries on keywords or phrases.
- Results were displayed in an easy to understand manner, with icons indicating the file type of each document.
- Results could be sorted by relevance or by date.
- Results were paged in sets of 10 so that users were not overwhelmed when a search produced a large number of matching documents.
- The addition of new documents was as simple as dropping them into a folder. Each document would be automatically indexed and available to users within one hour.
The document search system used a combination of ASP, SQL Server 2000, and Index Server to get the job done. Over time, the number of documents stored grew to more than 4000, and the system is still in use today.
Current Site
The document search system is an intranet application for internal use only.
